The Internet is Serious Business on MNN

 

On Thursday, Novemember 20th at 9pm, Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN) will air "The Internet is Serious Business." People's Production House worked with CUP Teaching Artist Helki Frantzen and students from City-As-School to produce this investigation into the physical infrastructure that undergirds the Internet. Check it out in Manhattan on Channel 34.

The Digital Expansion video team of Johanna, Kristian, Darnell, Helki, and Brian recently visited the collocation facility for the New York State Education and Research Network (NYSERNet), where they interviewed Tim Lance, NYSERNET's president and chairman.

The DEI video team has been interviewing a range of experts on New York's Internet infrastructure as a way to understand why it works the way it does. This time, "It felt like we were inside the Internet!" said one of the team's members.

The Telco Hotel

The Digital Expansion video team, which includes students from City-As-School and a video teacher from CUP, has been investigating the physical infrastructure of the Internet in New York City. They quickly found that all wires lead to the telco hotel at 111 8th Avenue. What is a telco hotel? Watch the video and find out.
