Rootz youth have created compelling and award-winning radio which has not only been aired on radio stations nationwide but has also been used by community based groups to educate on issues of critical importance to the community. Our work is not just about having a voice, it's about young people actively working to better ourselves and our communities ... and our mic is our weapon!

Tara Davis, Crystal Concepcion, and Tiffany Mojica live in three different boroughs, but they all have something in common in their communities: gangs. Sometimes caught in the middle, Tara, Crystal, and Tiffany are concerned about their neighborhoods, but they're also personally connected to gang members --their friends, brothers, cousins, and neighbors from around the way may be in a gang. The three Radio Rootz producers talk about their experiences beyond the hype of violence and stereotypes, and how they make sense and positivity of this part of everyday life.

Aired on Wake up Call on WBAI 99.5 FM, click on the player below to listen and think of what you are happy to have, and maybe something you could change, this Thanksgiving.
