The Six-Day War, also know as the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, began when the Israeli air force launched surprise attacks on the air force bases of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Having gained an extreme advantage in the first day, Israel was able to defeat its opponents after only six days and triple its land size. Approximately one million Arabs from these lands were placed under Israel's direct control, and many fled their homeland to escape the abuse inflicted by the Israeli military. Israel's attack was partially funded by the U.S. and Britain, and was the culmination of ongoing political, religious, and military tensions between Israel and the neighboring Arab nations.
