Class Aim/Objective/Theme- work on life maps- work on editing and picking clipsBrief Summary including curriculum exercises you didOur semester ends next Thursday, and there is a parents' night/performance, so we need to finish our story on school security, and the life maps we have been working on.  Some students had finished their life maps the previous week, so they got to work with me on editing.  The rest were working with Rachel on finishing their life maps. I worked with Jemima, Ellena, and Angela on editing.  Angela is really, really good at editing.  Ellena is pretty good.  They are all really into it.I wrote a draft script the previous evening, based on our in-class conversations about what the main points they wanted to communicate were, the audience, and the clips they found most compelling.  Ellena, Jemima and Angela spent the class picking clips. Some of the students will come with me to the studio on Saturday to record the narration for the story.  I want to have a draft, if not the finished product, for class next week.Tomorrow Rachel will work with the students to do the interviews based on their life maps; record one additional interview for the school safety story; and write some conclusions for the school safety story. What worked well?I was hesistant to split up the class into two groups, but it worked really well.  We also gave them a really clear outline of the semester's remaining four classes, and explained about the second semester being a Radio Rootz newsroom.  They were really into that idea.  I'm not sure they will all come back, but I hope our star students stay.  Next Time I'd...Overall things went really well today.  See concerns below re what I'd do different. Class Concerns and QuestionsThe main problem right now is not having computers.   Today it worked bc we only had three people editing, but we need much more in the second semester, plus the two we were using were my two personal computers, and its really far to lug those plus all my other stuff on the bus plus train. I'm also personally concerned about some of our students, particularly Lamour, Jhovanck, and Emilia.  They are all really strong and interested in radio, but are sometimes disruptive and apparently have big problems in other classes.  Today Jhovanck looked really, really tired, and had sleep or tears under her eyes.  I feel like there must be some intense things going on at home, but I'm not sure how or if to address that.
