Radio Rootz reporters Kristal Graham and Sidra Khatkatay spoke with some of the six winners of a city-sponsored fellowship that places them with grassroots community organizations. The fellowships emphasize serving immigrant communities and immigrant rights.

Pictured are Ingrid Sotelo, Phoebe Lee, Manhattan Borough President, Scott Stringer, and Alejandra Lopez. (Click on their names to hear about the contributions they hope to make to the community organizations they are placed with).

This event was co-organized with the New York Community Media Alliance, an association of ethnic and community publications in the city, which includes 100 media organization members serving the five boroughs and reflects the vast range of cultures and languages of NYC.

The "Civic Leaders of Tomorrow" public policy felloship program was created by Manhattan Borough President, Scott Stringer. The not-for-profit organizations hosting the fellows include the University Settlement, the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families, Advocates for Children, City Bar Justice Center (NYC Know Your Rights Project), The Mexican Educational Foundation of New York and CECOMEX.

Congratulations to all of the 2009 awardees!
