A Native American man, who became as known Ishi, was discovered by a group of white Americans in the wilderness of northeastern California. Ishi was said to have been the last surviving member of the Yahi tribe, after he had survived the Three Knolls Massacre and many other attacks by white settlers. He is also believed to be the last Native American in Northern California to have lived most of his life away from European American culture. After being taken into custody by a local sheriff, Ishi was moved to the Museum of Anthropology at the University of California, San Francisco, where he lived the remainder of his life being studied closely by anthropologists. How dehumanizing!
